Jul. 20th, 2005 06:53 amThis morning's plan was to get up and get on the NordicTrack, as it is a non-biking day. I was running late, and really not looking forward to feeling rushed, and then I saw that Josh's girlfriend's car is in the driveway. She stays over on a semi-regular basis, sleeping on one of the couches downstairs. I don't particularly mind this, but I do feel uncomfortable going down there and thrashing about, moving the floor fan, etc., so that I can get on the ski machine, particularly as I do this activity in bike shorts and an exercise bra (otherwise I overheat). So I decided to bump today's workout to a long walk this evening, effectively changing the morning from one in which I'm in a rush into one in which I have extra time. There's an upside to everything.
Last night we went to a restaurant called Theory. It was recommended by a friend at work, and was in a neighborhood in Tremont, on the near West Side of Cleveland, that I never would have found on my own but that is dotted with upscale restaurants. I love finding treasures like that. Theory has a quiet, subdued atmosphere and a nice menu.
Which included "Wild King Salmon."
I could barely stand to ask, for fear of disappointment. But, yes, it was actually Alaska king salmon, flown in and given a simple preparation.
For anyone who has lived in Alaska, or even on the West Coast, Atlantic salmon is a poor substitute for the rich, firm taste of Pacific salmon, and king is the filet mignon of salmon. One of the things I have missed most about living in Alaska has been the fish - salmon and halibut - that we ate regularly up there.
The waitress brought our plates. I took a bite. Tears literally flooded my eyes as a wave of homesickness washed over me. It was delicious. Ferrett's mom said it was almost like I'd had an orgasm, and I explained that they are called "mouthgasms."
Last night definitely fulfilled my New Year's resolution to only eat delicious things.
