My car burnded up!

Okay, my car didn't actually burn up, but I thought it was for a minute. And we clearly must now sacrifice money to the car gods again.

The heater fan has been doing funny things for a while - it would run okay, and then it would only run on high for a while and then it would be okay. I probably should have done something about it, but it's been a low priority. Today I was driving down the street and it was going on high and then it just cut out completely. So I pushed the button to switch from defrost to vent.

The fan sputtered to life, then acrid gray smoke poured out of the vents. It was like being in a James Bond movie when he gets trapped and they gas him. Only scary. And really smelly. Then the fan cut out again, and I turned the interior ventilation unit off completely. And opened the windows.

There was a scary minute when the smoke kept pouring out of the vents and I thought maybe the car was actually on fire and I was trying to figure out where to pull over, but it stopped and the air cleared. No water spewed onto the floor, no water under the engine, and the engine temp was fine. There was definitely nothing humid or steamy about it, so I don't think it's an engine problem. But I'm still a bit wary about driving it home. After school I'm supposed to go over to Kat and Eric's for Break Fast (it being Yom Kippur). And I think it'll be fine. But I will be watching the engine temp closely when I get started, because the last thing I want to do is have my engine seize up somewhere in East Cleveland.

And tomorrow Ferrett can drop it off at the shop. And in the meantime my throat is still feeling raw from breathing whatever was burning. Ick.
