Deep, cleansing breath
Jul. 13th, 2006 08:20 pmAmy went home today. It would be innaccurate to say that I am relieved, because I miss her so much, but with the bar exam a week-and-a-half away, it's really just as well. I am torn when she is here, wanting to spend time with her but needing to study. With a bit of luck and a lot of diligence, that conflict will be behind me forever as of the end of this month.
Today I got my instruction packet for the bar, along with my seat number. All greeted with a giant "woohoo!!!" Like a woman pregnant with her first child, I have heard far too many horror stories from lawyers of late. The guy who saw 1/3 of the bar takers drop out because they had gotten salmonella from the hotel box lunch. The disabled woman who arrived in Columbus to find that her accommodations were not arranged and she could not take the bar after all. And (my personal favorite), the woman whose paperwork got swapped with someone else's so that she never received an acceptance. Despite the fact that it was the Bar Admissions Office's fault, and the fact that her father was a close personal friend of the Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, she was not able to take the July bar. She was told not to feel too bad - there are 6-8 of these kinds of screwups every single year.
This story filled me with terror. So when I opened the mailbox today and saw the envelope from the Ohio Bar Admissions Office, there was much whooping and shrieking.
And then terror - shit, this is only 12 days away!
To celebrate, I dyed my hair the color of Izzy's hair. Why? Because it is the only time in my life when I can get away with having purple hair. We have the rest of July and then three weeks in Europe. Then I will have to go back to being a grownup. Why not have a little fun? I'm loving it.
And this evening I cleaned and cleared my office, which is also Amy's bedroom when she's here, so that it is organized for the final big push. Now I'm off to spend an evening watching Bab5 and taking it easy, so that I am refreshed and ready to go tomorrow.
