I finished Amy's quilt. Pictures aren't great - it's hard to photograph a queen-sized coverlet! But I think she will be happy with it.











Next project is to concentrate on the piece for yuki_onna's art show. I'm excited and nervous about doing a piece for the book. Drawing board time!

One day, a decade or two in the future, Amy and her SO will be de-cluttering and a ratty looking lump of fabric will be discovered:

SO: "what on earth is this? Eeeewwwww. Can we throw it out?"
Amy: "No! It's my quilt, the one my mom made for me!"
SO: "But it's faded and stained and raggedy and we never use it"
Amy: "What part of MY MOM MADE IT FOR ME do you not understand. The quilt stays!"

Doesn't it work just that way? There's a blanket -- nothing so nice, nor so handmade, just a thin cotton blanket in a grey plaid -- that went to college with my Dad, that went to college with me, that went to college with my son. Think 3 generations was a pretty good track record for one thin cotton blanket!

Your lovely handmade quilt will have a much more illustrious career, I'm sure. It's beautiful! Congratulations to you, Ms Creator, and to the lucky daughter recipient, for bringing beauty into the world!

There are a few bobbles, but considering that it was the first piecing that I'd done in years and it has insets, I thought it came out rather well!

I'm so glad to see that someone is out there working on sewing projects. I have a quilt in the basement that I started 5 years ago. All I need to do is finish the quilting and bind the edges and yet, it sits there mocking me. Ugh.

You know, I did some of that with a group of friends back when I was in Fairbanks, and it was a lot of fun, but I haven't done it recently. I may at some point in the future, but for now I just don't have the equipment or the time.

There is one really marvelous one about 6 miles away, and other than that I rely on the internet.

My time for quilting is definitely at a premium, but I'm really bad at sitting around with nothing to do.
