Monday, Monday. They just keep arriving, the bloody things.

My desk is awash in paper. I am attempting to bring order to chaos. in the meantime other projects want my attention.

Music of choice? Return of the King soundtrack. I'm such a junkie.

It was a good weekend. Started out with a fondue party for our friend Kat's birthday. She meant to have a birthday party last year when she turned 35, but with a new baby and all, it just kind of went by without ceremony, so she had told us all that she wanted a "35 redux" birthday party, rather than a 36th birthday party. There were nine of us for fondue, and we had a wonderful time, but this party was a ruse to lull her into a false sense of celebration, because on Sunday morning hubby Eric took her to Dim Sum and left the back door unlocked for the surprise party guests.

We were the coordination/decoration crew, starring Kristi as the Martha Stewart of Cleveland. There was a short moment of panic when we drove up their driveway and a dark-haired woman stepped out from behind the house - CRAP, they're still here!! - but it was our other partner in crime, Jen, who was the procurer of the Cold Stone Creamery cake (regular cake-sized but weighing about 15 pounds!), and then we got inside and started decorating. The theme was tropical, and Kristi made the best use of dollar stores in the area to decorate their house. In true Stewart-ian style, she hand cut about a billion paper flowers out of card stock, which were strewn all over the tabletops. People were instructed to sign flowers and write birthday messages to Kat, and after the party was over Kris strung them together with beads in between to make a lei "guest book" for Kat to keep.

There were about 35 people there, and a scad of rugrats toddling about. Kat has three or four different circles of friends who only intersect when they end up at her house for a party, and without the guest of honor Ferrett and I both felt a bit awkward inviting in people and making small talk, which was kind of funny. You don't really notice it that much when Kat and Eric are the greeters, but welcoming people into a house that is not yours but to a party you have created is...well...weird.

The jig was up when the guest of honor saw all the cars on the street, but she was still tickled to have a party that she didn't have to set up or clean up. The weird part was being in somebody's house when they weren't there and having to rummage about looking for things - where do they keep the trash bags? The scissors? The tape?

It was nice, because I had pushed through and finished all my homework on Saturday, so didn't have to be nervously watching the time and stewing about an exhausting Sunday evening. In fact, Ferrett and I went to Borders and spent a gift certificate that I had, then stopped for dinner, kind of an impromptu date. Which was sweet, and much needed. I have a wonderful, marvelous hubby.

In all, a good, busy weekend. Now back to files.
