Scattered thoughts on a Wednesday
Aug. 23rd, 2006 01:41 pmProving once and for all that traveling in Europe did not bestow me with new reserves of grace and style, upon first arriving at the office this morning I slammed my middle left finger in a vertical file. It's all swollen and blue.
Yes, I am indeed back to work. Spent a short time saying hello to people and then hit the ground running, with piles of files dumped back on my desk from the people relieved at no longer needed to babysit them. True to my prediction, everything was at a hurry-up-and-wait status and I got back just in time for the next phase. Yay! There's nothing worse than having nothing to do.
The cold/flu/SARS/bird flu/black death thing continues to cling to my chest like a mynock. I felt reasonably good this morning, until 4 hours after my last dose of Thera-flu. At that point I completely fell apart, coughing so hard that I couldn't breathe and nearly throwing up before it all stabilized again. I'm watching the clock to make sure I'm right on top of the next dose, and stopping for more of this miracle drug on the way home from work.
Classes started this week. I am not in them. Wow. Wow wow wow. I haven't really grasped the notion of weekends without homework being the norm. It's still so foreign, after 4 years of school. I'm looking forward to the first Saturday when I wake up in the morning and have nothing to do. (It won't be this Saturday; I have to go fetch Ferrett from the airport.)
Local friends are attempting to make plans with us. I am still feeling too sick to be enthusiastic about them. Maybe by next week, when I'm well again. Right now, getting through the work day seems like challenge enough.
I do have to go to school today, actually. Must pick up my diploma!
