Looking back on very favorite books from childhood, I realized that I had overlooked my own holy trilogy: Baby Island and Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink, and The Witch Family by Eleanor Estes. I reread them over and over, when I was in grade school. And my own girls loved two of the three - even though I could get them into the charm of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, they somehow were never enchanted by the antics of Caddie.

And in the "books I should have read by now but never get past the first few pages" category, the winner is [hangs head] The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I know, I know....

Don't mind at all! I am finishing up my first year as a night student at Cleveland Marshall. I work during the day as a paralegal, and am a 4-year program for law school. It's a whole different set of challenges, but fun.

I've added you back.

our school offers a 4 year program as well. I kind of wish we were able to have more contact with the night students- at 30, I think I'd have more in common with them than the day students I haev classes with every day ;-)

If your school is anything like ours, you will start to have more contact with them as you get past year one and some of the classes you really want are being given at night. I'm enjoying it a lot because I have peole my age around, but the hours are brutal - I'm up at 4am to study daily and don't get home until 9pm most nights. I'm taking the summer off because I need to recover my health and sanity - I broke my shoulder very badly during break and had to have a surgical repair (I have two large screws permanently implanted) and am still in physical therapy, so summer off is a HIGH priority.

I could never get myself into reading that either. I've tried and quit a few times.

Did you ever read A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle? That was one of my favorite series along with the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia).

Not until my oldest daughter was reading it - the great thing about having kids is that you get a second shot at the children's literature [g].
