I finally finished the first project of my renewed quilting career, an Amish-inspired wallhanging that I began almost 18 years ago when living in Fairbanks. I made the top then and quilted the middle portion of it, then could not find a border pattern I liked. Then I got away from quilting for a long time. When I picked it up again, finishing this piece seemed like a good place to start, and in a moment of serendipity I happened across the perfect border pattern in a local quiltshop. This morning I finished the binding. Here's a picture of the whole quilt and a bit of detail on the border.

Pretty!

The only quilt I ever made was a crib-sized quilt using the receiving blankets I'd used for all three of my children, and incorporating them in a crib comforter that my youngest child used. I still have it. It goes to the first grandchild I have, if I ever get one of them. :)

I've made many, but years ago. It's very satisfying to get back to it.

I second the motion. That's pretty incredible. Did you do this with a machine? Do you have a quilting frame? I've always liked quilts and I'm good with hand work, but the space required has always stopped me.

Lovely, lovely work! I love the vivid colors in this piece. My favorite part, however, is the floral stitching in the border.

Great colors! Hats off to you for finishing! I lose enthusiasm for a project, and then come to hate it if it hangs around too long. More than one article of clothing has finally been sewn and then given away because I was sick of looking at it. (High 'guilt' factor, for taking so long)

I love crafts that mix the traditional with the non-traditional: in this case, the Amish-inspired pattern with the very non-Amish color palette and organic border design. This is wall-quilt size, no?
Four feet square, maybe?

About 3 feet square, actually. And in reality the colors are pretty Amish. They use bright colors for men's shirts and the dresses of young girls. I have seen some Amish quilts so bright that they would knock your eyes back in your head!

Lovely work! Add me to the "especially likes the floral stitching" chorus. :) And I don't feel quite so bad now that the first quilt I ever made all by myself stretched over a span of almost 20 years...

Some projects just need a longer time to simmer. This one was made as part of a color study that was a lot of fun, but I really wanted to hand-quilt it. I thought it deserved that!

Thanks. The top was actually made as part of a year-long color study I did with a bunch of fellow Cabin Fever Quilters in Fairbanks, Alaska. It encouraged us to push our boundaries in playing with color and was great experience.
